Harihar Fort Trek

Harihar fort is located in the Nashik district of Maharashtra. It lies at an altitude of 3,676 ft from the sea level.

The hill on which the fort is built looks like a rectangular shape from the base village. But it is built on the triangular prism of rock during the Yadava dynasty. The edges of the Harihar fort are almost vertical.

The attraction of Harihar fort is the iconic steps to the top of the fort. It is almost 80 degrees vertically inclined.

There are Lord Hanuman, Shiva and Nandi idols and a small pond at the fort.

The view from the fort is beautiful. You can see many forts and peaks such as Bhaskargad or Basgad, Anjaneri fort, Brahmagiri and Utwad fort from the top.

Sandhan Valley

Sandhan Valley is also known as Valley of Shadows (as the sun’s rays don’t reach the ravines). It is a spectacular canyon in the Sahyadri mountains. It is one of the most challenging and enjoyable treks in Sahyadri.

Located near Bhandardara near Igatpuri, Sandhan Valley offers adventure experience like no other. You don’t just trek, you rappel, rock climb, enjoy bonfires and camp under the starry sky. The natural gorge of Sandhan is between AMK forts – Alang, Madan and Kulang, thus the name AMK. This trek is famous for its unexplored status, excellent photo ops and a trail that is off the beaten path.

Kalsubai Trek

Kalsubai Peak is a very popular trek in the Sahyadri region. It is the highest peak in Maharashtra at 5,400 ft and is easily accessible both from Mumbai and Pune.  The trek offers a breathtaking combination of natural environments like waterfalls, forests, grasslands, and historic forts.

The Kalsubai Temple at the summit of the peak draws people from the nearby villages throughout the year. They come to take blessings from Kalsubai Devi.  It is believed that a young village girl named Kalsubai, lived in the mountains. During that time she cured villagers and animals and also helped in village activities. One day she left for the summit and never returned back.  So in her memory, a small temple was built at her home on the mountainside and the main Kalsubai temple was built on the peak.

The Kalsubai trek offers views of many famous forts like Alang, Madan, Kulang. The treks to these peaks are pretty challenging. On a clear day, you also get imposing views of other surrounding forts such as Harihargad, Harishchandragad, and Ratangad. Many experienced trekkers combine these treks for added adventure.

The Kalsubai trek is also a very popular night trek. Trekkers flock here for the brilliant views of the sunrise!

Alang Madan Kulang Trek

Alang Madan Kulang forts have seen a lot of change of hands — from the Marathas to the Mughals, and back to the Marathas and finally to the British in 1818 — all fighting for power and control of the forts.

From the top, we can see many of the prominent peaks and reservoirs including the Kalsubai, Vikatgad, Vishramgad to the North East, Ratangad, Harishchandragad, Sandhan Valley, Ajobagad, Dangya Pinnacle to the South, and Bhandardara to the South East —  just to name a few!

That said, Alang Madan Kulang is not a solo trek. We recommend going in a group with at least two people having expert knowledge in mountain climbing and who know how to use mountaineering equipment.

If there are no experienced climbers in your group, we advice hiring local guides from the base village. These guides usually carry all the technical equipment required for the trek.
